See Gobe:- Etisalat Nigeria Sacks Over 2000 Staffs Nationwide.

Telecommunications company, Etisalat Nigeria Friday sacked over two thousand permanent staffs across the country. The sacked workers were paid off our source say. The Telecom operator seeks to hire adhoc staff to run the operations of the company as the company is said broke and can no longer retain the permanent work force. Most of those sacked have expressed surprise and disappointment over the development which has thrown them into the already saturated unemployment market. “We were asked to leave and our cheques handed to us yesterday, it is unfortunate that I am again back to the Job market” a source who does not want to be mentioned revealed. “They want to recruit contract staff/new agents and they can no longer run the cost of paying those of us that are permanent staff, they claim.” Another source went on to say the management of the company is insisting on hiring contract staff to replace those sacked but “it is unfortunate they had to send us home the way they did” She continued, “Do we even have labour laws in this country? How can you wake over night and ask people to go without months of notice, at least for us to be prepared for the worst”. Some of the reasons by the management for the sack is that the company can no longer manage the wage bill and the company is going through financial crisis and can’t afford to keep permanent staff, hence the need for the sack. In Lagos alone, over 1,200 were sacked while more than 800 were asked to go home in states like kano. The company has also terminated their graduate trainee program for all fresh graduates. The Company sent out emails that the program has ended without prior notice. Some members of the graduate trainee had spent years with the company only to receive mails about their sack at the close of business. Attempt to speak to the management of Etisalat to confirm or deny the allegations has been unsuccessful so far as at the time of filing this report, we’ve sent mails and no response.

Court Orders 37 Defected PDP House Of Reps Members To Resign.

The 37 PDP House of Representatives members who defected to APC in December 2013 have been ordered to vacate their seats and the House. Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court in Abuja gave the order today while delivering judgment in a suit filed against the defected lawmakers by the PDP. The judge said the lawmakers no longer had any business, morally and legally in the Assembly and so should resign. “Having perused the arguments of counsel and the constitutional provisions, it is clear and unambiguous that the defendants were sponsored by the PDP and won the election on its platform. It is also the court’s opinion that their tenure has not expired and there is no division in the PDP. “The defendants are, therefore, not competent to vote or contribute to any proceedings in the House of Representatives. An order of perpetual injunction is, hereby, ordered, restraining them from altering or attempting to change the leadership of the House of Reps,” Justice Ademola said. In January 2014, PDP instituted a suit against the defected lawmakers who attempted to cause an alteration in the leadership of the House of Representative.

Facts About The New Lagos State Smoking In Public Places Law.

Article sent in by Choices Nigeria:- There have been different views on the recently passed smoking law since it was signed by the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola on 17th of February 2014. We have now obtained a copy of the law and are surprised to read that contrary to what some people think, the law only becomes effective on the 17th of August 2014, which is six months after the Governor signed. This means that even the police that have been harassing smokers are not aware of this. Incredibly, the law also allows for smoking in open places such as on the streets, roads and highways as wells as in 10% of hotels, bars, night clubs and tertiary institutions. It even goes further to state that the law will be enforced by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), meanwhile all manner of people have been harassing smokers, even LATSMA and Boys Scout.. Can our government ensure that the public are well informed about laws they pass to prevent undue harassment of its citizens

El-Rufai Reveals Names of Top Men on Jonathan's Secret List.

A friend once told me that Nigeria "may not be easy in 2015", now am beginning to see why... Controversy has greeted the said watch list of President Goodluck Jonathan with a former Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, identifying himself and others as some of those on the list. El-Rufai’s tweet on Thursday evening triggered another controversy when he wrote that he's number seven on the alleged Jonathan’s secret snipers’ watch list. El-Rurai also went ahead to identified others on the list as: Former military head of state, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu; Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and former Osun State Governor and Interim Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande. Recall that ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo had, in a letter dated December 2nd, 2013, accused Jonathan of training snipers and putting 1,000 people on a watch list. Obasanjo had also accused Jonathan of having a killer-squad and later said he had facts before making the issue public. President Jonathan denied the allegations in his reply letter to Obasanjo, but more is coming out now. May God save Nigeria and Nigerians!.

APC Needs A Solid Foundation; Says El-Rufai.

The Deputy National Secretary of All Progressives Congress, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday advised all aspirants on the party's platform not to embark on campaign yet but to turn their energy into building a solid foundation for the APC ahead of the 2015 general elections. “I want to advise that all our aspirants campaigning now and indeed all members, that they should go to their villages and wards to build the party. We should avoid the mistake made by CPC during the last election. We cannot afford to become a party of contestants without foundation,” El-Rufai advised. Speaking in Minna at the commissioning of the Niger State Secretariat of the party, the former FCT Minister said the party could not afford to make the mistake made by the defunct Congress for Progressive Change during the last election. He said with a strong foundation in all the 774 local government areas of the country, candidates of the party in subsequent elections will have a good platform. El-Rufai said Nigeria could not afford another four years of misrule of the Peoples Democratic Party, hence he urged APC members to join hands together and work in unity to deliver the country from the incompetence of the ruling party.

REVEALED: What Actually Killed Abacha, By General Useni

Do you know that the flesh of late General Sani Abacha was cut and send to Germany and another body part cut and send to the United Kingdom? Well, these are some of the revelations one of his closest men back then is letting out. General Jeremiah Useni (rtd) gives detailed information about what happened: It’s no secret that you always had your time with him in the evenings. Achacha’s last 24 hours before his death, how were they like? What actually killed Abacha? Well, it is true that I always saw him in the evening. One thing I made sure was that I never took official matters to him. I never went there to gossip. As I said, we had been long time friends. Some times I would wait up till 11pm or 12 mid-night so that he would have finished with all those people who would normally take their problems to him. I think that day I just came back from Gusau and I was feeling tired and I thought I would take the evening off. But once I came in, I got a telephone call from the Villa that they were waiting for me there. I think it was the day (late) Yasser Arafat came to Nigeria and Abacha was to receive him. In fact, by the time we finished Abacha himself was very tired because he slept all through the evening on our way back from the airport. So I told people that the man was tired they should allow him rest. So I went back to meet him around 10pm or so and I left him around 2:30am. The next morning around 10:30 I think I had two administrators with me in the office when another call came. They said they were waiting for me at the Villa and I got a bit upset that why must they always wait for me at the Villa, every time they are waiting for me, they are waiting for me. When I got to the Villa, they said Abacha died. I said, died? But I was with him till very late. The story people have refused to let go of is that you were both out very late, enjoying and drinking with some woman and that he ate apple and died of possible poisoning from the apple? People said all that, about apple poisoning him, some women poisoned him and all that. There is an autopsy report on what killed him. But the autopsy report could bee doctored to protect him? Doctored how? They cut his body and sent to Germany. The report that came back said Abacha died of natural causes. They cut his body again and sent to the United Kingdom, the report that came back said he died of natural causes. The man had been ill any way. They (the military council) by-passed you because they felt you had a hand in his death? Yes! I was suspected, and they made Abdulsalami head of state, though militarily, I was the most senior officer at that time.

It’s a my way of giving back to the street, if I can sign 10 artistes and promote them, I will. If you are talented and my spirit flows with yours, i will sign you. I believe in lil kesh and vicktho and instead make their talent they waste for street, out of frustration, this boys fit go carry gun they rob. E fit be say na you sef dem go rob. I needed help so badly when Tony Nwakolo came in. I had no manager and Tony Nwakolo came in and told Cabasa that he should pick me up and help me. No be say tony na manager, na business man. Q: So its not like you guys fell out at some point? No no no Q: How did you survive without a record label?Too many things attached to the success of Olamide, like beign determined and youy have to actually know that talent is never enough, you have to build your character and be going good music. Even sometimes when you no get money, some producers fit do free beat for you. because you be good person and people wey dey around you them like you, once you do song, you send to them via Bluetooth and all because them like you, them go they share the song because say them like you; this na my story o, play play the song dey go. If you hear say them dey do something for one place, you go go beg them to perform, because you are cool, they will allow you. Try and be nice to the people around you. build your character first and the fame will come later, but God first and do more of smart work and less hard work. Q: Where do you get the slangs or lingua you use in your songs from considering you no longer stay in Bariga?(laughs) those lingua noni… I do call up my hood brothers and have conversation with them and some of my friends still dey hood, we hook up on weekends and I hear all this things. Q: There was this report that you have a beef with Wande Coal because you subbed him in one of the songs on YBNL album, how true is that?I didn’t mention n**e in my song, I didn’t mention picture in my song, me and wande coal don’t have any beef, we were on phone together like 3 days ago, so when I saw that report online, I was like really, where is this kind of report coming from. Wande na my guy and na street boy and he understand wetin I dey try talk. People just want to bring you down, people want to make a scape goat out of you, that’s what I meant with that line. I’m not subbing him. I said “they want to Davido me, they want to Wande Coal me” because of the many scandals people try to bring up and it’s another way of saying they want to put me for trouble. I don’t have issues with Wande Coal at all. Q: How have you been able to stay away from controversy?I don’t have wahala. I have a lot of responsibility- family, friends, label so I can’t get involved in controversy.

Suspected Kidnapper Strips Self Nakéd To Avoid Arrest

A woman alleged to have kidnapped a 10-year-old girl stripped herself to avoid arrest, yesterday, at the Ajegunle Police Division. The woman, said to have identified herself as a serving Assistant Commissioner of Police, allegedly kidnapped the primary school pupil who was on her way to school, at Barra Street. Eyewitnesses said the attention of some passers-by was attracted following the pupil’s fruitless effort to free herself from Comfort’s grip. An eyewitness, who gave his name as Mr. Joseph Ogbonna, said: “Out of curiosity, we decided to find out what the problem was and the girl said she did not know the woman. But Comfort said she was taking her child to Area B Command. “A man among the crowd asked the girl to give her mother’s telephone number which she did. We dialed the line and her mother surfaced.” An angry mob almost lynched Comfort before a police patrol team from Ajegunle Division took her to the station. However, at the station the suspect reportedly became incoherent and stripped herself, causing the male policemen to flee leaving the female officers to attend to the suspect. One of the residents of Olubukola Street, who out of curiosity went to the station, was said to have disclosed that Comfort was mentally deranged and had attacked a pregnant woman.

How To Successfully Prepare For UTME Exam [Must Read]

The 2014 Edition of the yearly UTME examination is here again! In few days time , the academic future of over 1million nigerians will be decided. Mass failure was recorded in Last year’s Exam and this has lead to an increase in the number of applicants this year. As the ”D-Day” draws closer , www.mynewspoint.blogspot.com has decided to share some tips On how to Successfully Prepare For UTME Exam. Scoring a high mark in the UTME exam is not as difficult as most students think it is , it all depends on your ability to prepare well and heed to simple instructions. This tips will guide you on how to prepare well and achieve success in your UTME exam. •Overcome Your Fear One of the main reasons why students fail their UTME exams is because of FEAR! They’re not really afraid of the exam itself, what they are actually afraid of is FAILURE!!.They’re afraid of the consequences that awaits them if they fail they exam. As a student , if you really want to pass the UTME exam , then you must overcome your fear!!. Look at the UTME exam as a roadblock between you and 10million naira, remove that entity of fear in you and push that roadblock out of your way to glory!! •Study Everyday Researches has shown that 60% of nigerian students dont read , which has been one of the major reasons why the nigerian education sector has continued to dwindle. The brain can give out information ONLY when you input data in it , so the more you read the more knowlege you get and that improves your chances of passing an exam. As a student , study hard and prepare well for your exam. Forget all the luxries and focus more on inputing data into your brain!. Spend at least 4hours of your day reading , read according to JAMB’s syllabus and focus more on areas where questions are most likely to come from. •Answer Past Questions Get past questions of the previous years and try to answer them. Get familiar with their question asking pattern. Every past question has a 3/5 chance of been repeated. Doing this will help you a lot. •Work More On Your Question Answering Speed You dont have allday to answer a question!. Jamb gives you limited time to answer a question , therefore , it is essential for you to work on your question answering speed. On average you have about 60seconds to spend on a question. Spending more than 60seconds would slow you down and leave you lagging behind. Dont delay yourself on a question , if you didnt get the answer to a question , skip it and move on to the next question. You can always go back to the ones you didnt do. •Picking The Right Answer This is where students fall into jamb’s trap. The UTME exam is one of the most Tactical exams in nigeria. Its is very tactical but yet easy. The answers are somehow look a-likes. You have four options A B C D , and out of those 4 A And B looks Correct. The real answer is staring at you but you’re too blind to see it!. What do you do in this kind of situation? If you’ve really prepared (read alot) then it becomes easy for you. In this kind of situation , the first thing to do is to eliminate!! Eliminate the incorrect answers and leave your self with the ones that are most likely to be correct. After that , look carefully at the options once more and try to relate them to the question that was asked. You’ld definately find one that corresponds to your question , pick that one as your answer!

8 Mistakes Men Make When Approaching Women [Must Read]

Think you know all there is to know about picking up women? You will be surprised at these 8 mistakes most men make when trying to approach a woman they like. 1.Starting Out On The Defensive Ironically, the mistake a lot of men make when it comes to approaching women simply fearing the worst. This isn’t always true (at all), but once you start believing it is you’ll immediately be on the backfoot, trying to think of solutions to problems that really, haven’t even arisen. The last thing you want to do is see any woman as a ‘challenge’ or as though you need to learn any ‘tricks’ to persuade potential partners to talk to you. Doing this will be what puts women off, not the things you were initially worried about. Forget what you’ve heard, approaching a woman is not about game-playing. Women will always rather get to know a friendly guy who means what he says than someone who’s trying to play it cool. 2.Wrong Place Everywhere you go is not a pick up zone — you have to thoughtfully work out where you can actually approach women you don’t know. There is no point striking up conversation with a potential partner if they are already in a situation where they don’t feel like flirting: you’re dooming yourself to failure. For instance, t’s a safe bet to stick to bars, when women are more often than not feeling their best and already in the mood for socialising and open to getting to know people. The buzzy atmosphere of a bar also means that you can casually make conversation with less fear of rejection. Pick the right place where you know she isn’t feeling stressed out or busy. 3.Not Being sensitive to the situation Sometimes, women just want to go out drinking and dancing. So seeing girl out having a good time does not necessarily mean they want to be approached by men. Be prepared that chances are that most people won’t be that interested in hanging out with strangers when they’re out to have a laugh with their mates. And if you get the vibe that you’ve interrupted a night that you’re not welcome on (if she’s not continuing the conversation, if she’s more interested in her friends) then just amicably excuse yourself to the bar and carry on with your night. 4.Being too drunk Being with a man who is in control is important to women. Women don’t want to be with a guy we have to force feed water during a night out, help go to the loo or keep from getting into fights at the bar. You’re also way more to get distracted from the woman you’re trying to talk to by other women, slur your words and just be generally unapologetic and annoying. Until you’re well into a relationship, avoid getting too drunk. 5.Using Pick-up Lines Sorry, guys, but everything you’ve learned about using pickup lines to start a conversation with women is dead wrong. There is nothing cheesier, less interesting or more of a turnoff than a guy who uses a standard opening line. Why? It shows he lacks confidence, period. It shows he’s literally spent time reading up on the best way to approach a woman and that he needs other guys to tell him what to say and how to act. Whatever you do, a simple hello is better than a bad line. 6.Not Asking Direct Questions The worst thing a guy can do is come up to us and talk about himself for the entirety of the conversation. If you have to talk about how amazing you are, it’s probably because you’re not. Asking questions about her life shows you’re a considerate guy, and there’s more of a chance we’ll feel a connection — which will make it much easier to get a date. 7.Being Too Touchy As a general rule — whether its approaching a woman you don’t yet know, or progressing things further once you make it to the bedroom, just echo the movements she makes towards you. Wait for her to make the move to make contact with you, and then do that too. Build up to different parts of the body, but do it following this routine. But regardless, don’t do this in the supermarket because although you might be getting good vibes from your partner in crime, you will creep out the other shoppers. 8.Concentrating Too Much On Her Not You Often, a guy will concentrate too much on what a woman’s reaction to him is rather than on the conversation taking place. If you’re overthinking what you’re supposed to say and where your hands are supposed to be (in your pockets? By your sides?), she’ll know. And it will get awkward. If anything, try thinking of approaching a woman as starting a conversation with a good friend — be casual about it, be a good listener and let her talk. Another way to think about it: If it works out you’ll gain a date. If it doesn’t, what are you really losing?

Osaze Is A Great Player – Keshi Confesses.

Coach, Stephen Keshi has praised Super Eagles and Stoke City forward, Osaze Odemwingie as a great player and professional whose character is not out of place. In a down-to-earth interview with cable network, Aljazera, Keshi said that he cannot disqualify him from playing for Nigeria. “If he’s stubborn, that doesn’t mean he can’t play for the national side. He’s stubborn because of the way he was talked to or the way he was approached,” Keshi told Aljazera. Excerpts: Al Jazeera: Brazil 2014 is on the horizon. Nigerians are excited. You’ve set the bar high by winning the African Cup of Nations. What are your expectations for the summer? Stephen Keshi: I just hope that my players are in good health. That’s key for us. Before the Mexico game [friendly], I lost Bright Dike and I would’ve loved to have him there. Now he’s out of the World Cup. After that, I’m just going to take it match by match. AJ: Every player has glowing things to say about you. How does that make you feel as coach? SK: I wasn’t aware of that since we’ve never been that close that we talk about such things. I’m very transparent with them. My oldest son is 31 so most of them could be my kid’s age. I have to be honest with them. I tell them the way I go about life beyond football because after they leave the sport, they need to know there’s another life, a very complex one, ahead. AJ: What has been the key for you because they’ve had clashes with Nigerian and foreign coaches in the past? SK: I have an open communication line. I talk like they’re all adults. You must listen to them, you must respect them. They appreciate that. When I wanted to bring in John Obi Mikel, I left him out. I told him he had problems with Nigerians, he had the big-player mentality. He called me and said he’d like to come back to the national team but I refused and hung up. He called back again and asked me to hear him out. I told him I was trying to build a team and these players were respectful, they gave their hearts out. They wanted to play for Nigeria and ensure the team does well. You won’t do that for us, we don’t need you, I told him that. His agent called and I refused to talk to him. So Mikel called back again and I said let’s talk. At that point, almost 80% of Nigerians didn’t want to see him in the national squad. And I told him that. But I also took the risk and he agreed to the conditions. Ever since then, he’s been a great professional with great attitude in training. He’s a different Mikel and I told him to enjoy his game and have fun. AJ: How did that work? SK: We’re open. There is no superstar in this team. Everybody works for one another. You have 170 million people in Nigeria and if you leave, there will be somebody else to take your place. Everybody thinks anyone playing abroad is ready and is a great player but that’s not true. AJ: Last time we spoke, before the World Cup qualifier against Ethiopia, you were sure about 80% of your team composition. Is that still the case? SK: It’s still a good number but that doesn’t mean that if I see one of two available players, I won’t bring them in. If they’re better than the ones I have, I will include them. AJ: There’s a story out there that you were critical of Ikechukwu Uche? SK: I don’t want to go there again. I’ve talked extensively about that and I don’t have any bad feelings with him. My aim is the national team. I’m responsible for that. Nigerians have entrusted me with this job. I have to do what I have to do. I want to move ahead and talk about players here not the ones not in the camp. AJ: Peter Odemwingie, does he fit into your system? SK: Why not? AJ: So you’re saying there’s a chance Odemwingie might be a part of your 30-man squad? SK: He’s a Nigerian, isn’t he? And he’s doing well. AJ: But Peter, allegedly, is a very stubborn player. He has allegedly had problems with every coach he’s played for. SK: We’re all stubborn. It’s just how we manage the player. I just need to be able to manage the player and that’s it. Odemwingie is a great player and a great person. If he’s stubborn, that doesn’t mean he can’t play for the national side. He’s stubborn because of the way he was talked to or the way he was approached. AJ: So I’m hearing that Odemwingie will be a part of your 30-man squad? SK: I didn’t tell you that. AJ: Joseph Yobo? SK: Maybe. He’s playing in one of the biggest leagues in the world. AJ: But you have a great centre-back pairing in Godfrey Oboabona and Kenneth Omeruo? SK: I know that. AJ: You’re lighting fire underneath your players because you’re telling your starters that they’re not guaranteed a place. SK: There are no guaranteed shirts for anyone. You have to work hard to play for me.

On the spur of the moment, their friend Henry, also a Nigerian national, attacked them with knives.” Residents of the area denied having seen anything or hearing any commotion that lead to the m****r. UPDATE:Surviving Girls Describe Horrors Of Boko Haram Camp [WARNING: VIOLENCE]

TheBBC Hausaservice has aired an interview with two young Nigerian females who managed to escape from Boko Haram captivity and later gave a graphic account of the dreaded sect’s operations. Janet’s Story: Janet, 19, narrated how a group of terrorists invaded the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State and started slaughtering people in front of her. Then, they ordered the girl to slit one man’s throat. She refused, and the group leader’s wife did it instead. Janet was taken to a house where she cooked for the terrorists. The insurgents would kill persons who worked for the Government, Janet said, also the girls who used chemical hair treatment. Before engaging in fights with the military, the terrorists also have a habit of digging holes in the ground and burying their dead. Janet says she knew almost everyone in the group of her captors, as they came from her home area. She was able to escape from her captors after feigning illness. As the insurgents suspected she had AIDS, they allowed her to seek medical attention, and she was able to break free. Liatu’s Story TheBBC Hausaservice also broadcast the story of another survivor, 23-year-old Liatu, who was captured by the terrorists last year. The insurgents killed all the Muslims working for the Nigerian Government in the area of Liatu’s reside.

But John Shittu, who represents the player, told Kick OffNigeria.com it was all speculation. “As far as we are concerned, this is all speculation. Of course it is normal for clubs to show interest,” Shittu said. “But the player has not said he wants to leave, and the club has not said they want him to go. “There is always contact all the time from different clubs here and there, but he still has three years left on his contract

According to the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Hilary Opara, no ransom was paid to secure the release of the septuagenarian. Nitabai was a lecturer at Rivers State University of Science and Technology. Reliving his experience, the septuagenarian said he was blindfolded all through his incarceration and made to sleep on the wet, bare floor. He said: “I was blindfolded. I did not see anything they were doing and didn’t know where I was. I thank God for keeping me stronger because I was sleeping on the bare ground. When rain comes it touches me everywhere. “I am a retired lecturer from the university and I mind my own business. So I don’t know what actually made them to carry out this action on me. I was really tortured. They used their gun butts to hit my body.” Speaking on the rescue operation, the elated Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hilary Opara, said utmost professionalism was applied by men of the state anti-kidnapping squad. ALERT! House Of Reps Uncover Fresh Missing N35Billion

Information gathered from report byPunch, the House of Reps yesterday March 13th uncovered another missing N35billion. Read the full report below… More revelations by the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts indicated on Thursday that the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation could not account for N35bn it collected from the Service Wide Vote within nine years. While the records of the Budget Office of the Federation showed that the OHSF received N52bn between 2004 and 2012, the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Remi Adelakun, admitted only N17.6bn. The committee, which is chaired by Mr. Solomon Olamilekan, insisted on Thursday that Adelakun must explain how the N35bn was spent. At Thursday’s session, the permanent secretary and officials of the budget office had disagreed over how much the latter released to the OHSF. The records of the budget office showed that in 2004, the OHSF received N2.7bn; N9.8m in 2005; N701.7m in 2006; N896.3m in 2007; N5.3bn in 2008 and another N612.9m; and N70m in 2009. For 2010, the figure was N17.6bn; in 2011, it was N13.6bn and N8.5bn in 2012. However, the OHSF admitted the N17.6bn released in 2010. Olamilekan ruled that the permanent secretary must produce documents on how the balance of over N35bn was utilised within two weeks. In a separate case, the committee directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to refund the N1.015bn it spent in 2007 to print 65 million ballot papers for that year’s presidential election. The committee stated that there were “double payments” for the ballot papers, which it said the bank could not explain adequately. Although the Director, Corporate Services, CBN, Mr. Dipo Fatokun, who represented the bank, denied the alleged double payments, the committee insisted that the bank made contradictory submissions. Fatokun said, “There was no double payment. When we first appeared before the committee, we did not check our records very well and that was why we thought there were double payments.

Presidency challenges Sanusi to respond to allegations against him

The Presidency has challenged the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to defend himself against the allegations raised against him. While advising Sanusi to stop misinforming the public, the Presidency insisted that his suspension had nothing to do with his claims that some sums of money were not remitted to the Federation Account by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Addressing State House correspondents on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati maintained that Sanusi is spreading false allegations because he has axe to grind with the government. The Federal Government, he said, has authorized the engagement of reputable international firms to carry out forensic audit of NNPC accounts. He said: “We have noted with disappointment, the unrelenting attempt by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to falsely portray his recent suspension from office as an attempt by the Presidency to bury his allegation that huge sums of money due to the Federation Account are unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).” “The Presidency wishes to reaffirm that Mallam Sanusi’s suspension has absolutely nothing to do with his unproven and inconsistent claim that $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion is missing from the national treasury. “As was clearly stated in the letter suspending him from office and confirmed by President Goodluck Jonathan in his last Presidential Media Chat, Mallam Sanusi’s suspension was wholly based on the need for him to step aside while the weighty charges of financial recklessness, gross misconduct and persistent disregard for laid down rules and regulations in the management of the Central Bank made against him by the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and others are properly investigated.” He went on: “It is most unfortunate that instead of trying to provide some reasonable response to the clear and unambiguous query of his official conduct as Governor of the Central Bank, Mallam Sanusi has cynically chosen to whip up public sympathy for himself and anger against the Federal Government by deliberately misleading unwary Nigerians and the international community into believing the falsehood that he is being punished for exposing corruption. “In recent days, the suspended CBN Governor has, following in the footsteps of others who have an axe to grind with the government, taken to spreading his false claims and allegations through gullible foreign media correspondents, telling them among other things that his threat to force commercial banks to open up their books to unravel the whereabouts of the “missing” funds whether $49.8 Billion, $12 Billion or $20 Billion, ultimately led to his suspension.” “He also continues to make the mischievous claim that the government is somehow involved in a scam to divert huge sums of money from the Federation Account through the misappropriation of kerosene subsidy funds.” Stressing that Sanusi’s allegations are untrue, Abati said that Government is making no effort to bury them as falsely claimed. According to him, relevant committees of the National Assembly are still investigating the claims and that the suspended CBN Governor is free to give evidence before them to back up his allegations. “Furthermore, in keeping with its avowed commitment to full transparency, openness and accountability in governmental affairs, the Federal Government has authorized the engagement of reputable international firms for the recommended forensic audit of NNPC accounts.” “The Presidency condemns Mallam Sanusi’s resort to playing politics with serious national issues. His suggestion that the phantom missing funds may have been diverted to fund campaigns for next year’s general elections is mischievous, irresponsible and designed to incite other political parties and members of the public against the Federal Government.” “The claim which amounts to cheap blackmail against the government and was clearly made in furtherance of a selfish personal agenda is most unbecoming of someone who still holds the High Office of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.” “The Presidency would not ordinarily have wished to join issues with Mallam Sanusi who as CBN Governor remains an appointee of the President, but the very unacceptable manner in which Sanusi has been misinforming the public made it imperative that this statement be issued,” Abati added

Obasanjo Is Nigeria’s Worst President – Orji Uzor Kalu Speaks

Former governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has rated former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the worst leader Nigeria has had after its independence. Kalu, who was guest lecturer at the Nigerian Economics Students Association (NESA), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) annual lecture, made the assessment yesterday, as he spoke on, Youth Empowerment and Good Governance: Veritable Tools for Economic Development. He said the former president’s closure of Hallmark Bank where he had significant stake and Slok Air in his efforts to deal with him slowed down the employment opportunities he would have created for Nigerians. He, therefore, enjoined the federal and state governments to initiate entrepreneurship programmes that would help achieve economic development. Kalu stated that to achieve meaningful development, government at all levels must empower the youths. The former governor also observed that economic development is a major criterion for national development, saying ‘’if there is no economic stability in the world, there will be no political stability.’’ His words: ‘’Economic development can only be possible when youth empowerment and good governance are firmly rooted, and the true measure of good governance is the ability of a government to realize people’s human rights and deliver sustainable and equitable development. “As long as there is corruption, economic development may remain a mirage. There is great need for all of us, especially the government to work hard and also work together to eliminate poverty. “I urge the federal and state governments to make good use of the potentials found in the economic departments in our country because it is the departments that should be the centre of research for government at various levels.’’ Kalu urged the students to imbibe the spirit of entrepreneurship, saying that was the only guarantee for self-employment. ‘’Just as the nation is struggling to diversify after more than 52 years of catastrophic dependence on oil, I implore you to begin to think outside the traditional assumptions – the false assumption that university education or degree is the key to a bed of roses,’’ he said. Talking straight to the students, he said: “Your primary goal should be to conquer any environment in which you find yourself. The society is increasingly becoming knowledge-driven and does not have room anymore for the person who cannot think or be innovative, no matter the odds.’’ Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Bartho Okolo, noted that the inaugural lecture was for soul-searching as its theme touched on the wellbeing of every one present on the occasion. Okolo, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Polycarp Chigbu, also said the occasion was one for “speaking frankly because His Excellency is known for honestly baring his mind on national issues such as the one on hand.” The vice chancellor, who noted that Kalu had been in government, stated: “It is on record that you have empowered thousands of people in Abia State; there can, therefore, be no better choice than you to address this audience on this subject.” Kalu was at the UNN with Senator Emmanuel Onwe, former Abia Chief of Staff, Dr. Ukaegbu and a retinue of his advisers and aides, including his younger, brother Mascot Kalu

Boko Haram In Trouble As FG Goes After Sponsors The Federal Government is set to go after Boko Haram sponsors and sympathizers.

This decision was reached after innocent school children at the Federal Government College (FGC), Buni Yadi, in Yobe State were brutally murdered by the insurgents. According to a military source, one of the advantages the Boko Haram members have is that most northern oil dealers smuggle their petroleum allocation across the Nigerian boarders in Sokoto, Katsina, Kano, Yobe and Borno and they are the ones helping to boost the mobility and income of the insurgents. According to intelligence report obtainded by the military about three hundred truck load of petroleum product leaves the country every week through Sokoto, Katsina and the other borders. The terrorist group with the help of their supporters in government use the proceeds from the sale of the oil to unleash terror on Nigerians. He said there has been massive movement of soldiers to the North East with the latest being the deployment of 81 Battalion and 213 Battalion and this movement means that the whole army is going into the north east to engage the insurgents in a fierce battle to conquer them in the shortest possible time. The soldiers are now taking the war to the doorsteps of the Boko Haram group who are now on the retreat. For the war against Boko Haram to end quickly, the Military is calling on the Federal Government to man the borders through a joint operation of the Immigration, Customs and the joint military forces to make sure this leakage and passage of oil supply that runs into hundreds of tankers in a week doesn’t continue.

Ronaldo beats Messi to top the Goal Rich List 2014

The Real Madrid star takes over from retired 2013 winner David Beckham at the top of our index, with Samuel Eto'o, Wayne Rooney and Kaka rounding off the top five Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world's richest footballer after topping the annual list of players' net worth compiled by Goal. The Real Madrid superstar held off Barcelona rival Lionel Messi in the Goal Rich List 2014 with an estimated wealth of €148 million. The Goal Rich List is collated by a team of analysts and takes into account all streams of revenue for active footballers over the course of their careers. Ronaldo succeeds David Beckham, who led the way on the 2013 list but called time on his playing career last May. Only current professionals are eligible with the earnings of more than 200 contenders assessed before Goal's experts finalised the top 10. Ronaldo has enjoyed a remarkable 12 months in which his value to club and country has never been more evident. He scored all four goals as Portugal beat Sweden in the World Cup play-offs, landed the 2013 Ballon d'Or and signed a record- breaking new five-year deal with Madrid. Messi came in second after inspiring Barcelona to the Spanish title and signing up for a range of lucrative endorsements. It was a mixed year for the Argentinian, however, who appeared in a Spanish court in September to testify over alleged tax fraud relating to commercial contracts and lost his grip on the Ballon d'Or after a year blighted by injuries. Wayne Rooney makes the top four on the list following Manchester United's decision to offer him the biggest contract in British football history, worth €365,000 a week. Neymar's controversial transfer to Barcelona sees him rocket up the standings to sixth, with his parents' €40m 'compensation' payment included Goal's figures due to its game-changing significance. The rest of the list is made up of global superstars, who have accrued huge wealth over significant spells at the top of the professional game. Samuel Eto'o is at number three, ahead of Rooney, thanks largely to the millions he earned at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, with Kaka, Ronaldinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluigi Buffon and Thierry Henry completing the top 10.

Continue… The traumatised girl told the OPC members that when it became dark she decided to sleep in front of a shopping complex, near Elere Police Divisional Headquarters, till the next day. The victim said that shortly after she spread some cartons and was about to sleep, a man pushed her from behind and she fell on the floor. She narrated that the man used her belt to tie her neck and used a cloth to cover her face and started raping her. The victim said she screamed and shouted for help but there was no one to rescue her and the man r***d her four times. She alleged that thereafter, a night guard, whom she described as huge and tall, and wore eyeglasses, came with a torch light and left with the r****t to an unknown destination. She alleged that the night guard left her with blood all over her body without making any attempt to help her. She alleged that the guard only came the next day to chase her across the road to the public toilet where she was later found by the OPC members and sympathisers. “It was at this spot that the OPC members and other sympathisers saw me. They started pouring water on my head because I had no strength. The man after raping me stole my handset and left with the guard. Mother Sells Three-Day-Old Baby For N260,000 In Akwa Ibom.

According to a report by Punch, a nursing mother in Akwa Ibom named Imaobong Udoh (pictured above) has been arrested for allegedly selling her 3-day old baby girl for N260,000. Full report below Also arrested along with Imaobong were four persons for allegedly participating in the theft of the baby. They are the buyer, Mrs. Regina James; her husband, Mfon James; the traditional birth attendant who delivered the baby, Mrs. Comfort Henry; and Mr Emmanuel Okon, a homeopathic doctor, who arranged the sale. Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Gwadabe, said in Uyo on Monday that the father of the baby had reported the theft to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects. Gwadabe said, “On March 3, 2014, a case of child stealing was reported by Mr. Eteobong James, of No. 33 Urua Ekpa Road, Itu Local Governmnet Area, to the police, where a three-day-old baby girl was sold for N260, 000. “Based on the report, the suspects were arrested. “Mr Emmanuel Etim Okon, was the one that arranged the infamous deal and personally conveyed the baby from the point of delivery at Nna-Enin in Uruan Local Government Area to the buyers at No. 37 Church Road, Uyo.” The police boss explained that Regina allegedly paid N150,000 to the mother of the baby and N110,000 to Okon, the homeopathic doctor, for his services. The commissioner stated that the accused would soon be arraigned in court and warned child thieves to steer clear of the state. He explained that the state would not be conducive for their illicit trade. Husband of the buyer, James, who spoke with PUNCH METRO said when his wife told him she was pregnant, he gave her money for ante-natal care, but was surprised to hear that she bought the baby. He said, “l am a trader. My wife, Regina, told me she was pregnant and I gave her money for ante-natal. One day, she told me she was in labour and later informed me that she had been delivered of a baby girl. “I did not know she bought the baby since she has given birth to four children, though three died.” However, the homeopathic doctor said Regina brought the mother of the baby, Imaobong, to him so that he could take care of her during ante-natal. He said Regina had explained to him that the father of the baby was not financially buoyant to take care of her. He denied collecting N110,000 from Regina, stating that he only collected N30,000, which was the cost of delivery of Imaobong’s baby. “When Regina brought Imaobong to me, she told me that the man responsible for the pregnancy was unable of take care of her. “The N30,000 I collected from her was for the upkeep of Imaobong before and during delivery of the baby. I did not collect N110,000.

Soldiers Stop Planned Boko Haram Attack In Borno, kill 20 Of Them

Boko Haram gunmen returned late last night to Mafa and Ajiri villages in Borno State to attack the villagers but this time they met their match. Soldiers guarding the villages and neighbouring ones opened fire on the insurgents, killing at least 20 of them. But instead of retreating, eye witnesses said the Boko Haram members came in their hundreds and engaged the military men in a gun battle. Fortunately the military men overpowered them, killed many of them and seized different calibers of machine guns and improvised explosive devices from them, this is according to the Director of Defence Information, Maj. Gen Chris Olukolade. He said some soldiers, who were from the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, were injured in the battle but no soldier was killed. “Attempts by terrorists to attack Ajiri and Mafa as well as other communities in the outskirt of Maiduguri and Dikwa in Borno State towards the Cameroon borders, yesterday were foiled by the security forces. The ambush mounted by the terrorists to enable them unleash terror on the communities unchallenged, was also cleared by troops on reinforcement mission. “Arms captured from the terrorists include various brands of machine guns and improvised explosive devices. Twenty insurgents died in the encounter, while our troops sustained varying degree of injuries. Also, more camps were destroyed yesterday in encounters at various forests and mountain locations around Adamawa and Borno States,” Olukayode said..

2015 Elections: Pastor Chris Reveals Who Will Become The President + What Would Happen Next

The General Overseer of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, aka Liberation City, Dr. Chris Okafor, in a recent interview with Encomium Weekly revealed that President Jonathan will again win the next election, and if he doesn’t that means he wasn’t called of God. The funky man of God also referred to as ‘Oracle of God’ is known for his many predictions. Earlier this year Prophet (Dr) Chris Okafor predicted that there will be bloodshed in Nigeria. He also predicted last year the death of the mother of Ex-governor of Lagos state Bola Tinubu and that Boko Haram would soon be a thing of the past. On predicting Jonathan will win the 2015 election? God has been accurate. He is a progressive and creative God. The Bible says every secret belongs to God, He reveals in order to redeem. There were some prophesies that were given during our cross over night and some are still coming. I remember vividly that God gave a revelation that the NUJ should pray against untimely death among its members and if possible they should come together to pray so that danger will be averted. But not too long, while we were praying, we heard one of their editors was killed. There was a prophesy about plane crash and few weeks ago, a plane crash was averted through prayer. I am not a prophet of doom. Do I prophesy evil? No! God reveals to redeem. But what is the essence of revealing it and not being heard? God spoke to me exclusively that the current president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will be Nigeria’s president after 2015 general elections. There will be a lot of battle. There will be a lot of betrayals. There will be a lot of court cases concerning his election but at the end of the day, he will still remain the president because God showed me specifically that he has been ordained to run for two terms. God has already declared it to me. Mark what I said! If it does not come to pass, know I’m not called of God. In the second term of President Goodluck Jonathan there will be a lot of transformation, despite battles from the opposition. Then after Jonathan’s second term, the APC will take over

Boko Haram’s ‘Human Butcher’ Captured

Source : THISDAY Nigerian security forces operating with the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Friday captured a number of terrorists, including one described as “Boko Haram’s lead specialist in human butchery” as they continue their offensive against the insurgents along Nigeria’s border with Chad. The MNJTF also repelled a dusk attack by the terrorists in their bid to overrun markets in communities in the outskirts of Monguno and NNPC at New Marte, Borno State along the border with Chad. Also yesterday, a Federal High Court in Abuja refused to grant bail to an Islamic scholar and a university lecturer, Dr. Muhammed Nazeef Yunus and two others, who are standing trial for their alleged involvement in terrorism activities. The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen Chris Olukolade who disclosed the capture of the “human butcher’ in a statement yesterday added that over 50 assorted brands of grenades and11 AK 47 rifles were recovered from the fleeing terrorists. He revealed that cordon and search operations are ongoing at the general area while heightened patrols are continuing. Meanwhile, he said, interrogation of captured terrorists from various locations had been yielding useful information as to their mode of operations. “Among those in custody is a lead specialist in butchering human beings who insists he does not use firearms but daggers and cutlasses for his assignment”, he said. In the same vein, Olukolade said that troops on stop and search patrol yesterday afternoon in Maiduguri arrested a man suspected to be a terrorist with an unprimed Improvised Explosive Device (IED), who was undergoing further interrogation as at the time of reporting. The Defence Spokesman further revealed that more assaults and encounters are continuing in other identified locations as intelligence sources confirm the routes being used by the fleeing terrorists. “Troops have been directed to sustain aggressive patrols in certain areas where terrorists’ actions are anticipated”, he added. Yunus, the suspected Boko Haram member who was denied bail yesterday by the Abuja court is a lecturer at the Department of Islamic Studies, Kogi State University, Ayingba. He was charged alongside Salami Abdullahi (a.k.a Asta) and Musa Umar with act of terrorism, an offence that ran contrary to section 17 of the terrorism Prevention Act 2013 (as amended). The trial judge, Justice Gabriel Kolawole in his ruling on the bail application said he would not grant the accused persons bail considering the gravity of the allegation and the security challenges posed by the Boko Haram insurgents, especially the recent m****r of school children in Yobe State. Consequently, the Judge held that: “The bail application by the accused persons failed” and ordered accelerated hearing in the matter.

Nigerian Government Grants Islamist Terror Preacher Visa

The Federal Government granted visa to renowned extremist and Islamic terror preacher, Dr Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips, who has been banned from a number of countries because of his messages. The Minister of Interior, Abba Moro said Philips was granted visa because he ‘met the requirements The TelegraphNGreports Philips who lives in Qatar has been issued a Nigerian Visa to visit and preach in the Country. The cleric has already been banned from countries like Australia, Germany, United Kingdom, United States of America, Kenya, amongst others. Reports had it that the cleric celebrated his Visa issuance with his followers on his facebook on Sunday morning, saying, “Al hamdu lillaah. I just got a visa for Nigeria and will be going there in a few days, in shaa allaah. So, I hope to see all my Nigerian brothers and sisters. Baarakallaahu feekum”. Speaking to journalists in Abuja, the Minister of Interior noted that every country has its own requirement for the grant visa and in Nigeria’s situation especially against “the back drop of our security challenges, we also have our requirement for granting of visas. “We have our own black list too of people that because of our security situation should not be allowed into country. And if this preacher that you talk about for instance did not fall within the list of people black listed for their activities that are inimical to internal security. If he is preaching and the content of what he has submitted for the granting of visa that will not undermine the security of the country, then certainly we will grant him the visa. That is the purpose we have achieved here”. He further said it was double standards, as “when the Nigerian government signed the anti-law and the west was complaining, we started that Nigeria nation is a soverign country that should be allowed to determine it’s destiny and practices”. He added that Nigeria will therefore not use” the refusal of visa by Germany, UK as a basis for refusing anybody visa here. “I can assure you that the Nigerian security personnel are equal to the task of detecting whose activities that are inimical to the situation of this country. “Any moment that his preaching and activities are seen to be inimical to the security of this country I can assure you that we are up to the task of repatriating him as soon as possible. “And his specific activities in this country guides the request that he has made which has also guided the action of the Nigerian immigration service in granting the visa. “Apart from the preacher any other person that gains entry to this country whose activities undermine the integrity and security of this country will be properly treated

Nigeria Is A Corrupt Country – US Report

United States has classified Nigeria as a corrupt country with a poor governance record, where discrimination against women, the less privileged, lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people is common place. US Secretary of State, John Kerry made the corruption allegations on Thursday, saying, “Country Reports on Human Rights Practices” which he presented at the Press Briefing Room of the State Department in Washington. Kerry warned that the US was not acting out of arrogance but to plug the pitfalls arising from its experiment at home and help the human race against making avoidable mistakes. “Even as we come together today to issue a report on other nations, we hold ourselves to a high standard and we expect accountability here at home too. And we know that we’re not perfect. We don’t speak with any arrogance whatsoever, but with a concern for the human condition,” the Secretary of State said. This year’s report, he stressed, “is especially timely coming on the heels of one of the most momentous years in the struggle for greater rights and freedoms in modern history.” Kerry added: “From Nigeria to Russia to Iran, indeed in some 80 countries the world over, LGBT communities face discriminatory laws and practices that attack their basic human dignity and undermine their safety. “We are seeing new laws like the Anti-Homosexuality Bill enacted by Uganda and signed into law by President Yoweri Museveni earlier this week, which not only makes criminals of people for who they are, but punishes those who defend the human rights that are our universal birthright,” Kerry said The report also took a huge swipe at the anti-corruption agencies – the EFCC, ICPC and the Police. The report which ranked the EFCC’s commitment to the anti-corruption war higher than that of the ICPC said Ibrahim Lamorde’s efforts at prosecuting offenders were frustrated along the way. “The anti-corruption efforts of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and EFCC remained largely ineffectual. The ICPC holds broad authorities to prosecute all forms of corruption, whereas the EFCC is tasked with handling only financial crimes. Despite this wider mandate, the ICPC had achieved only 68 convictions since its inauguration in 2000. Lamorde, according to the report, seemed to have been constrained “by the fact he is being teleguided by those that put him in office, on who to arrest and prosecute while his efforts at trying 12 prominent public officials met a brick wall with several frustrating setbacks during the year.” The report continued: “Despite the arrest of several high-ranking officials by the EFCC, including Dimeji Bankole and Hassan Lawal, who have been left off the hook, allegations continued that agency investigations targeted individuals who had fallen out of favour with the government, while those who were in favour continued their activities with impunity.” In conclusion, Kerry summarised once more the reason for his country report exercise: “This is about accountability. It’s about ending impunity. And it’s about a fight that has gone on for centuries, as long as human beings have been able to think and write and speak and act on their own. “And so, the United States of America will continue to speak out, without a hint of arrogance or apology, on behalf of people who stand up for their universal rights. And we will stand up in many cases for those who are deprived of the opportunity to be able to stand up for themselves,” the report said
